SNEAKERS & SPEAKERS AT SXSW

We left Austin last week with our blood pumping to the beat of great hip hop and indie artists, who all came out to play Sneakers & Speakers at SXSW. The event supported the Rock On Foundation, founded by Red Mamba Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs and his little (but still big) brother Luke.

We chatted it up with hundreds of people who stopped by to see our set up and new Spring/Summer 2013 kicks. Everybody was loving the Windjammer Slip-On. Considering the sun beating down, they could see how it would be a cool option for summer. (Yeah, it’s hot in Austin.) Our custom button maker was also a huge hit, as Sandlot-themed buttons tempted the curious eyes of all who passed by.

Oh No! Oh My!, Feathers, Dallas Green (City and Colour), The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Chuck Inglish (The Cool Kids), and Stak5 all rocked the stage over the course of several glorious hours. We’re so glad we could be part of such a high energy event to raise awareness for the Rock On Foundation! Here’s to putting the fun on repeat for next year.

How many pairs of shoes do you have?

Enough shoes and their respective boxes to build a small fort in my living room.

What blogs do you check frequently for inspiration?

I am constantly on blogs and websites throughout the day, so it has become a part of my life in terms of getting news and being relevant. As for inspiration, I tend to get it a lot from the people and things around me. Here are 4 blogs of my good friends, who have directly or indirectly influenced a project I have worked on, check them out!

What’s the best part of your day?

The best part of the work day is when we get our protos in from our factory. It’s like Christmas in the office. We finally get to see the completed shoes after working on them a month or so prior.

Which American President has the best style?

I’ll go with my instinct and say JFK. He was a purveyor of classic American style. Think Ray-bans, Lincoln Continentals, and PF Flyers – classic and  timeless products that you can imagine him using. Also, he grew up in the neighborhood I currently reside in so he gets bonus points for that!

Any closing thoughts?

I’m hungry.

POP SHOP TOUR: BEHIND THE SCENES

We’ve been hard at work all week, painting and pasting and prepping for the opening of our Pop Shop Tour at The Class Room in Houston. Many thanks to our friends – Cabby & crew at The Class Room, Ouigi of The Brooklyn Circus, Alyasha (aka DJ Stack Aly), and the guys of Street Etiquette – for helping us rock this.

The Pop Shop’s now open til Feb 17th, and we’d love to see all you locals there! In the meantime, take a peek at what went down beforehand.

Event details (including a kick-off party DJed by Yasiin Bey) can be found here & here.
